Underflow @ Malaria Relief Concert 6/5, Bliss

This is the info on the concert:

Friday June 5th Bliss will be hosting Malaria Rock Relief. This is a rock show to raise funds for the Karen Human Rights Group.
The Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG) is a small and independent group documenting the human rights situation in rural Burma by working directly with rural villagers who are suffering abuses such as forced labour, systematic destruction of villages and crops, forced relocation, extortion, looting, arbitrary detention, torture, sexual assault and summary executions. The vast majority of these abuses are committed by soldiers and officials of the State Peace & Development Council (SPDC), Burma's ruling military junta.

The group was first formed in December 1992 to help villagers in rural Burma to get their story to the outside world by translating their stories and testimonies into reports for worldwide distribution, accompanied by supporting photos and documentary evidence of the human rights situation. We also work to overcome outside perceptions of Burma's villagers as 'helpless victims' and to support their strategies to resist human rights abuses.

Currently the Karen are suffering from large cases of malaria.

All the funds raised will be going to medicine to treat those affected by this debilitating, deadly disease. The doctors donate their time and effort but require medicine to treat the people.

Entry is 250NT
We will have an informational video from 930-10pm. Afterwards there will be performances by Pine Top Surgeons
David Foster
Gross Fugue
The Belly Angels Dancing Troupe
Underflow
The Deposers
& The Sinister Sound Syndicate

We would like to thank all the artists and volunteers that have donated their time for this cause. Hope to see you all there for this great cause.

  1. Hi all,

This is the Karen Human Rights Group. We are concerned that the funds raised from this concert are not really going to go to KHRG. KHRG does not have doctors or provide medicine for malaria treatment, we are a human rights documentation organisation. If people would like to donate to our work, we kindly request that you visit www.khrg.org and make your donation online. This group has had no contact with our organisation. If you would like to support healthworker teams operating in rural Burma, we can also direct you to those organisations - please contact us through our website.

    Many thanks,
    KHRG
